We had to put our functions of illustration pieces into context. Therefore for my informative piece on Dr. Dobell’s magnificent hair restorer I decided to create a label and simulate what a bottle of hair restorer may have looked like.

Master?
This is my comment-able illustration. Commenting on the woman’s role in the home during the late victorian/ early edwardian eras.
My inspiration came from photographs and postcards from these eras which I have been collecting over the past year. The quote at the bottom is from the ‘The good wife’s guide’.
During this last year I have been developing my skills in photoshop. Therefore I decided to combine my traditional drawing skills with my new digital ones.
A good wife’s guide to making a house a home
This is my decorative piece for the functions of illustration unit. It is a book cover for a house wives book of knowledge. My inspiration came from a book I bought for this project called ‘Household Wrinkles’ which has cures and suggestions for everything from weak ankles to baldness.
The cover is fabric and I printed the design on with an etching plate I made out of zinc. Another love of mine is old book covers. I have made quite a few books this year now so I decided to use my skills and created a good wife’s guide.
Etching is another skill I have learned whilst at university and it is becoming one of my favorite techniques to display my work.
Again I used my collection of old photographs as reference.
Worried about hair loss?
Worried about hair loss? Going a bit thin on top? Completely bold? Not any more with Dr. Dobell’s magnificent hair restorer!
For my current project at university we could research into anything we wanted as long as we produced an informative, decorative and comment-able illustration.
This is my informative piece. I created this label to inform the reader on how to use the lotion. The inspiration came from my book called ‘Household Wrinkles’ by Mrs De Salis which I bought for the project. It contained a number of remedies for curing hair loss.
I have been collecting photographs from the late victorian/ early edwardian eras over the past year and therefore thought it was time to use them. I selected a few to use as my reference material for this unit.
