Love aaaawwwww

This is a piece I did for my housemate and his girlfriend last summer. I use photographs a lot as reference for my work. Sometimes I just see a photo and I have to draw it. This was no acceptation. I just loved illustrating such a beautiful moment.

The joy of marbling paper.

This was the first time I had marbled paper before. I was fascinated by how such a simple technique could produce such a beautiful pattern. They are the kind of pieces of work that no matter how many times you look at them you will always see something different.

All I had to do to create these was fill the bottom of a basin in water, splash a couple of drops of marbling ink into the water (using as many or as little colours as you wish),  swish these around the water with a stick (for as long or short as you want depending on how separated you want the ink particles to be on the paper) and then lower the paper on top of the water for a couple of seconds, take the paper out and leave to dry.

Love from Hetty and Dave.

This morning I reached, what I feel to be, a pretty huge milestone in my artistic career. I now have a selection of my prints being sold in a shop called “Love From Hetty and Dave” in Boscombe, Dorset.

I decided I would only display a couple of my Rabbit screen prints to begin with and see how they sell before I frame up any more of my work.

Be my human?

After visiting ‘Love from Hetty and Dave’  which makes handmade jewelry and accessories in Boscombe last week. I decided to make my own hand crafted toys.

This was the first toy I made. He is a robot called Hogarth. He is full of wadding and lentils.

the cornwall adventure (accommodation)

This was what me and my sister called home for 2 weeks in the summer whilst teaching in Cornwall.

‘Quaint’ was the word I used when describing it to my Mum.

The cornwall adventure.

Back in May I was contacted by a woman who owned a dozen family holiday cottages in Mawgan Porth, Cornwall who needed an artist to run some art classes for children between 2-12 for 2 weeks. All accommodation and art supplies would be supplied and any money I made I could keep. So I jumped at the chance of a paid holiday in Mawgan Porth. I took my sister along with me as she wishes to become a teacher someday and I thought the experience would be good for her.

All the lessons were planned by myself. This trip was like working with a blank canvas. I had so much freedom to teach what I wanted.

I thought for the first class I would do something fairly simple to see what sort of ages would come, what sort of skills they wanted to learn and just to have a little meet and greet with the children. We started by creating mythical hybrid creatures which they enjoyed doing so much that they then started naming and creating stories with their creatures.

All the children were interested in working with the clay so working off of their hybrid creature designs they  created some of the pieces above. They also all had a go on the potter’s wheel with my help.

We also made paper mache pots, origami flowers, book binding and  they all collected pebbles from the nearby beach to paint.

I also gave them all the task of saving their card board cereal packets and yogurt pots because on the last day we  took over the studio by creating a giant cardboard land full of beaches, butchers, bakers and a couple of prisons.

Pencil drawings

These are a couple of pieces I drew over the summer holidays. It’s a style I’ve used a lot since then. Creating detailed pencil drawings of people is my passion. I love drawing the hair in great detail
